Before I tell you about me, I’d like to share that there are many factors that influence the chance of a good outcome beyond the skill and experience of an individual physician. One critical element is the rest of the neurovascular physician team. I am blessed to work with partners that are compassionate and have exceptional skill. If I were out town celebrating an anniversary with my wife and one of my patients developed an urgent problem, I would be comfortable knowing that my patient would remain in the best of hands. Dr. Frank Hellinger was the first interventional neuroradiologist in Orlando, and his mentoring and guidance over the past 13 years has been invaluable. Dr. Ravi Gandhi has extra fellowship training in endoscopic and open skull base neurosurgery and has helped many of my patients with complex tumors at the base of the brain. Dr. Ankur Garg has complimentary training in neurology and has enriched my practice by broadening my perspective when tackling challenging cases. I have worked side by side with all of them at times. Although one never wants to require the services of a vascular or endovascular neurosurgeon, I would be confident having any one of them take care of a family member or me.
Of equal importance is the dedication and quality of the office team. Vanessa Wise joined Orlando Neurosurgery in 2003 and has worked with me since I moved to Orlando. She coordinates patient care and has served many additional roles including research coordinator, facilitator for neuroscience labs and examinations at the UCF College of Medicine, and assistant director of the neurology clerkship rotation at Advent Health. Vanessa has been invaluable to me and our patients – I can think of no one better to help one navigate the hurdles in today’s complex medical landscape.
